Does your child’s temperament play a big part?
Does temperament have an impact on your child’s sleep?
Maybe temperament is making it harder for them to get to sleep? Or rather, to learn how to fall asleep independently?
We are all different. We all have different needs. Is it strange to think that, if we, as adults, deal with things differently based on our own temperament, then babies probably deal with sleep differently?
Personally, I think it temperament plays a huge role in how sleep is handled, learnt and dealt with.
It is important to think about this, before starting to implement sleep coaching methods with your child.
Think about their personality, how they react to different social situations, how they deal with change and other people. Put yourself in your child’s shoes. Would you be happy with the changes you’re about to make? How would you react?
By thinking about your child’s temperament in the run up to sleep coaching, you can make some decisions to make the process easier for your child and their needs.
Choose a sleep coaching (training) strategy that will suit them and their temperament.
Adapt their sleeping environment that matches their personality and needs.
If you’re reading this, I’d imagine you’re having a difficult time with sleep. You’ve probably tried so many things to get your child to sleep. Could this be due to their temperament? Did you choose a coaching method that is suited to them?
A lot of the time, parents find it hard to implement a method successfully because they’ve chosen one that isn’t perfectly aligned to their child’s personality.
Is your child super active or alert? These types of babies may take longer to adapt to a new situations, and traditional methods may not work for them.
It’s really important to choose a method to suit YOUR baby. If you do this, it will result in an easier journey through the progression and improvements of sleep habits. Have a think about your baby’s temperament…. Have you been tackling their sleep problems from an angle unsuitable for them?
